In this video, Kiran Dellimore gives a broad overview of his research paper entitled  'Influence of a Streamwise Pressure Gradient on Film-Cooling Effectiveness' published in the JOURNAL OF THERMOPHYSICS AND HEAT TRANSFER,Vol. 23, No. 1, January-March 2009. Film cooling is widely used in conventional gas turbine and rocket engines to minimize thermal loading of engine structures and to manage heat transfer between hot, reacting gases and cooler structural components. Previous experimental work has shown that streamwise pressure gradients strongly influence the performance of the film.This paper extends semi-empirical modeling ideas for wall-jet film cooling to include the effects of adverse and favorable pressure gradients. Sound & Vision (Animation) 
At the University of Plymouth, researchers in the Computer Music Research Laboratory are developing new tools to aid the film composer. Their research is creating programmes that can analyse and re-create the style of the great composers -- or learn emotional response to music and compose accordingly.
And animation students at the University of the West of England, in nearby Bristol, are involved in an exciting collaboration with students from the Royal Academy of Music to investigate how the creative process develops and to learn the importance of professional collaboration.
Partnered at random the students have just five weeks to produce a 1 minute film complete with soundtrack. Unlike traditional approaches where the composer creates music to fit a film, or as sometimes happens in animation, the film is drawn to fit in with the music, neither partner is pre-eminent, creating a truly collaborative experience.

DigInfo - http://movie.diginfo.tv Photron, who produces high-speed video camera solutions, has just released its FASTCAM SA1. This high-speed camera can film 1,024x1,024 full-frame pixels at 5,400 frame/s. Segmented frame is available as well: 1,024x512 pixels at 10,000 frame/s; 128x128 pixels at 90,000 frame/s; and 128x32 pixels at the maximum speed of 150,000 frame/s. The camera comes with a 2-microsecond electronic shutter, an embedded CMOS sensor for color and monochrome shoots, and a collection of presets so as to not to initially overwhelm the user. It comes with 8GB of memory (easily expandable to 16GB) which can be subdivided into folders so you can organize your photos more effectively.

Saturn: A Giant Thrust into Space 1962 
The film provides an introduction and overview of the Saturn launch vehicle. It is designed with stages to drop off as fuel is spent. There may be two, three, or four stages, depending on the payload. The Saturn rocket will be used to send Apollo missions to the Moon and back. Guidance systems and booster engine rockets are based on proven mechanisms. Scale models are used to test the engines. Hardware, airframes, guidance systems, instrumentation, and the rockets are produced at sites throughout the country. The engines go to Marshall Space Flight Center for further tests. After partial assembly, the vehicle is shipped to Cape Canaveral in large pieces where it is assembled using specially built equipment and structures. Further trials are performed to assure successful launches.

Structural Collapse: the classic case -Tacoma... 

The collapse of the bridge was recorded on film by Barney Elliott, owner of a local camera shop, and shows Leonard Coatsworth leaving the bridge after exiting his car. In 1998, The Tacoma Narrows Bridge Collapse was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." This footage is still shown to engineering, architecture, and physics students as a cautionary tale.[9] Elliot's original films of the construction and collapse of the bridge were shot on 16mm

Photolithography (or "optical lithography") is a process used in microfabrication to selectively remove parts of a thin film or the bulk of a substrate. It uses light to transfer a geometric pattern from a photo mask to a light-sensitive chemical photo resist, or simply "resist," on the substrate. A series of chemical treatments then engraves the exposure pattern into the material underneath the photo resist. In complex integrated circuits, for example a modern CMOS, a wafer will go through the photolithographic cycle up to 50 times. Photolithography shares some fundamental principles with photography in that, the pattern in the etching resist is created by exposing it to light, either using a projected image or an optical mask. This procedure is comparable to a high precision version of the method used to make printed circuit boards. Subsequent stages in the process have more in common with etching than to lithographic printing.
